Abstract
This study analyzed the coastline change in the Yellow River Estuary by using 3S techniques and GIS overlay analysis with basic landsat TM images obtained from 1976 to 2002 respectively. Some 3S software, such as Erdas 8.6, Arcview 3.3, and Arcinfo 8.2, were used as interpretation and analysis tools to realize image geometric correction and matching. The coastlines were extracted by using the characteristic that the near infrared of water is obviously under the others. The coastline spatial-temporal data were obtained after GIS overlay analysis. Finally, the paper discussed the countermeasure to avoiding the heavy erosion of the coast in the Yellow River delta.
