An analysis of retinal microcirculation status on patients with early stage diabetic retinopathy

Abstract

OBJECTIVE To investigate characters and ratio of retinal capillary nonperfusion in patients with early stage diabetic retinopathy.METHODS The data from patents with diabetic retinopathy diagnosed definitively as stage Ⅰ and stage Ⅱ were reviewed retrospectively according to fluorescein fundus angiography and color photo.When major diameter of capillary nonperfusion was less than one third of optic disc diameter,the eyes were not included.RESULTS Three hundred and sixteen patients accorded with statistical criterion including 139 men and 177women.The average age was 56.8 years.The average period from detedtion to examination was 7.9 years(average 4 years).Six hundred and nine eyes were included virtually.There were 33 eyes(12.89 %)with capillary nonperfusion in the 256 eyes with stage Ⅰ,and 144 eyes(40.79 %)in the 353 eyes with stage Ⅱ.CONCLUSIONS Intraretinal microvascular abnormality including capillary nonperfusion has occurred virtually in the considerable eyes with diabetic retinopathy as stage Ⅰ and stage Ⅱ.
