Loratadine vs astemizole and terfenadine in treating chronic urticaria

Abstract
A new antihistamine drug, loratadine was used to treat 60 patients with chronic urticaria and two groups of 30 patients each treated with astemizole and terfenadine served as controls.The total effective rate of loratadine group was 90%,and that of astemizole and terfenadine groups were 63% and 73%, respectively(P0.01).In loratadine group,the drug took effect within 60 min in 43% cases, while in astemizole and terfenadine groups there were both 5% cases. No adverse reaction in loratadine group was observed.
