Abstract

Adipic acid and methanol were esterified to synthesize dimethyl adipate catalyzed by sodium bisulfate. The effects of the molar ratio of reactant, amount of catalyst and reaction time on the yield of dimethyl adipate were investigated. The optimized reaction conditions were established in which the yield and the purity of the ester could reach 97. 36% and 98% ,under the selected reaction conditions:n( adipic acid) :n(methanol):n( sodium bisulfate) = 1: 5: 0. 29 ,refluxing and water segregating for 60 min. The experimental results indicated that sodium bisulfate exhibited high catalytic activity for the esterification reaction.
