Abstract

Objective To study the effect of interferon gamma (IFN-γ) on the development of pulmonry fibrosis induced by bleomycin in rat and the possible underline mechanisms. Methods Rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: normal control group, pulmonary fibrosis group and IFN-γ treated group. On days 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28 after bolemycin treatment, 6 rats were killed and the lungs and serum were collected for histopathologic and electron microscope study, ELISA detection of IL-4 and Western Blotting detection of surfactant protein A (SP-A). Results The degrees of fibrosis, the level of IL-4 and SP-A decreased significantly in IFN-γgroup as compared with the pulmonary fibrosis group. Conclusion IFN-γ has the inhibitory effect on the process of pulmonary fibrosis, its mechanisms maybe relate to balance Th cytokine and decrease lung injury.
