Abstract
Objective:To investigate the surgical technique of preservation of the facial nerve during acoustic neuroma surgery. Methods:Fifty one cases of acoustic neuroma underwent tumor removal microsurgically by suboccipital approach, and the anatomic integrity of the facial nerves were kept as complete as possible. Results:Total tumor removal was achieved in 45 of the 51 patients(88.2%),subtotal in 6(11.8%).The facial nerves were kept anatomic intact in 44(86.3%) of the patients ,the others were not. Conclusion:Identifing the original segment of the facial nerves and its relationship with the tumor,Separating the tumor sharply near internal acoustic meatus are the key to kept the anatomic integrity of the facial nerve.
