Abstract

The year of 1986 is a turning point for China's radio broadcast. The audience has been substantially reduced due to the impact of televisions. Therefore, radio stations have to find outlets for their own development. In 1986,Economic Radio Station in Zhujiang started and challenged the mode of People's radio station. It operates with low cost in the concept of respecting and admiring audience and makes broadcasting retreat from mainstream media. The Sound of China(CCTV 1) held fast to its position of the mainstream media. But under the influence of Zhujiang mode,it swayed between the mode of mainstream and non-mainstream in some specific programs.Traffic Broadcasting was able to attract mainstream audience with non-mainstream ways. However,it is still difficult for this kind of mode to be applied to universal broadcasting. The radio stations for a certain group of people and network broadcast will surely become popular though they have not fully developed. The operational style of mainland broadcasting tends to be increasingly complex and diverse.
