Abstract
The fluoroacrylate copolymer emulsion was prepared by miniemulsion polymerization with methyl methacrylate and 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl methacrylate as the monomers. The composition of the copolymer and the molecular weight were demonstrated by FTIR and GPC,the latex particle size and morphology were characterized by dynamic light scattering analyzer and transmission electron microscope, and the surface property of copolymer films were studied by Wilhelmy method. It is shown that the copolymer emulsion made by miniemulsion polymerization have good stability and narrow particle distribution,in addition, the molecular weight distribution of copolymer is narrow compared to conventional emulsion polymerization. The water and oil repellency of the copolymer film increases and the surface energy decreases in the increasing of the fluorine content of the copolymer.
