Abstract

Objective To analyze the angiographic character of patients with internal carotid artery occlusion and the collateral method,to observe its direction meaning to the surgical therapy according to its character. Methods We reviewed 27 cases of internal carotid artery occlusion from Jun.2006 to Dec.2007 in our hospital. All cases were administered full cerebral artery angiography to get the essential information. Results In all cases,12 cases underwent carotid artery endarterectomy, with 9 cases having successful results. In these 9 cases,4 cases had forward flow to cerebral artery, and 5 had retro-flow.Conclusions Full cerebral artery angiography is essential to internal carotid artery occlusion. The advantages are the evaluation to collateral and the judgment to overall situation of full cerebral artery. But it's hard to replace other imaging methods.
