Abstract

According to the characters of the process of the reservoir impoundment,geology and structures of a plain reservoir,the mathematical model of soil seepage field coupling with stress field is built,and the coupling of permanent seepage field and stress field is calculated with finite element method.The calculation results with considering coupling effect of stress and seepage show that the coefficient of soil permeability reduces by 10% on an average,the value of max vertical displacement increases from 0.356m to 0.41m and that the value of max principal stress σ_1 and max principal stress σ_3 increase by 3.5% and 2.5% respectively.The results make it known that the security of earth dam stability is reduced when the coupling effect is considered.
