Abstract

Objective To discuss the therapeutic effect of selective peripheral denervation for lower limbs spasm of cerebral palsy. Methods All 380 patients with cerebral palsy, admitted from January 2003 to March 2008,were studied retrospectively.Based on the position of spasticity, selective peripheral denervation was performed, including spinal dorsal root of lumbosacral region, sciatic nerve, obturator nerve, peroneal nerve. Results Instant post-operational relief rate was 100%,including decreased limb strength in 82 cases and numbness or decreased sensitivity in 142 cases. All cases were followed-up for 6 months to 3 years and got a relief rate of 95%.A total of 95% cases improved in gait. Conclusion Selective peripheral denervation is safe and effective in treating spasticity of lower limbs caused by cerebral palsy.
