Abstract

Context-Based Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding(CABAC)is one of the most important innovative techniques in H.264/AVC.By combining arithmetic encoding and adaptive context-model it can get a high compression ratio,it can enhance 9%~14% data compression efficiency campared to CAVLC.As one the newest entropy encoding methods,it combines adaptive techniques、context models and binary arithmetic encoding, and so it uses non-multiplication and an easy probability estimation method, these techniques made it more easier to complete the encoder by hardware. This paper proposes a design achieving the requirement of real-time 1080P(@30Hz) encoding. An ASIC implementation of the design is realized by SMIC 0.18μm standard cell library. The estimated frequency is 200MHz,the area is about 9700gates,and the CABAC encoder could be used in video coding.
