Abstract

Objective:To investigate insulin resistance(IR) of elderly type 2 di abetes and its relating factors. Methods:One hundred and twenty elderly patie nts with type 2 diabetes(mean age 60 years) were divided into two groups accord ing to homeostasis model of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR)index. In group A were t he patients with relatively higher insulin sensitivity(HOMA-IR 3.56),while in group B were insulin resistant type 2 diabetic patients(HOMA-IR≥3.56). Body ma ss index (BNI),waist hip rate(WHR),blood pressure and biochemical parameters wer e determined in the two groups. The control group included 60 patients with type 2 diabetes aged more than 40, but less than 60 years. Results: There were no dif ference between two groups in age, sex, diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, high density liprotein-cholesterol, HbA1c and HOMA β-cell function. However, BMI, WHR, systolic blood pressure, triglyceride, fas ting plasma insulin and HOMA-IR were different in both. By logistic stepwise-r egression analysis, the difference in BMI, WHR, systolic blood pressure, triglyc eride and HOMA-IR were displayed. To compare the elderly patients with the cont rol people, the difference also existed. Conclusion: Insulin resistance is close ly related with type 2 diabetes mellitus in eldly patients, and is the important target of prevent of therapeutic approach in these patients. [
