On the Differentiation and Choice of Meaning in Translation

Abstract

Translation is mainly translating meaning.Conceptual meaning and situational meaning,descriptive meaning and emotional meaning,literal meaning and metaphorical meaning,active meaning and passive meaning,thematic meaning and secondary meaning are five pairs of meaning.The differentiation and choice of them are concerned with the adequate understanding and appropriate expression of the source text in translation.A translator should adopt dynamic and flexible strategies so as to achieve the goal of cultural exchange between different countries in the world.
