Abstract

A carbon-based solid acid catalyst was prepared by a carbonization-sulphonation method.Pinus massoniana sawdust was soaked in phosphoric acid for 48 h and char was obtained by pyrolysis of the soaked sawdust at 250℃ for 2h.The solid acid catalyst was prepared by treating the Pinus massoniana char in fuming sulfuric acid. The esterification of oleic acid and methanol was taken as the model reaction to investigate the effect of preparation and reaction conditions on the catalyst activity. The catalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The optimal conditions for the esterification reaction were reaction time 2 h,volume of sulfuric acid 100 ml,the dosage of catalyst 13%and sulfonation temperature 165℃.The conversion of oleic acid can reach 91.36%.
