Abstract
Not much attention was paid to the achievements from the studies of Chinese etymology in the history of etymology in the period of Wei, Jin, the South and North dynasties, Sui, Tang and the five dynasties. Although the book Shuowenjiezi Xizhuan is only a dictionary, there are many components of the studies of Chinese etymology in the explanation of the book, which perform in many aspects.
