Abstract

This article intrduced the special feature, therapeutic effectiveness, indication, contraindication and treatment mechanism of multi-direction rapid traction. The effects of 186 cases with lumbar disc herniation were treated with rapid traction were observed .134 out of 186 cases were only treated for once. The total effective rate was 92.5%,the excellent 80.6%.The change of protruding material in 32 cases with lumbar disc herniation was also assessed. The medial or post-lateral protrusion were followed-up three months to four years after rapid traction. The protruding materials were measured on CT screen with the ratio of protruding material area / vertebral canal area. The ratio determination in 20 post-lateral hernia patients at pre-treatment and followed-up duration was 0.1830±0.0663 and 0.130±0.0618 respectively, and in 10 cases with medial protrusion, the ratio was respectivly 0.2337±0.0858 and 0.1572±0.0749 (P0.05) at pre-treatment and followed-up period. Samples of human lumbosacral spine L 1~S 1 from ten dult cadavers were used for the experiments. The sagittal and coronal sections were made by cryotomy method of section anatomy. The results showed that both intervetebal space and 2/3 superior forament were enlarged. The facet joint was broaded and the nerve root in the canal was moved. It can conclused that the effects of multi-direction traction release the compression of nerve root in the canal and movement of facet joint as well as relief sticky nerve root.
