Abstract
Six strains of Rhizobium meliloti were isolated that grew in the environment of 1%~8%NaCl,or 1%~8% K_(2)SO_(4),or pH7~13.They have a characteristic of strong saline-alkali tolerance.Except one strain of Rhizobium meliloti that produces alkali, the other 5 isolates produce acid. With the increase of pH,and concentrations of NaCl and K_(2)SO_(4),corresponding capacities of producing acid/alkali of Rhizobium meliloti gradually descend.Rhizobium meliloti can improve Environment pH by producing acid and alkali. Therefore,Rhizobium meliloti can meliorate alkaline land with high pH to a certain degree.
