Abstract

For a long time information science has been limited to the pure description of inquiry, information, documentary and the technological process of objective knowledge. However, this definition has been facing the challenge since 1990s,and replaced by the view that information is the small part of knowledge enabling the original pattern to be changed.Behind these two different definitions, there exist two opposite philosophies: the school of Popper and the school of Gadamer. The former focuses on knowledge's objectivity and inflexibility, while the latter emphasizes the interaction between objectivity and subjectivity. This thesis aims to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these two theories and analyzes the reality of new information science.
