Abstract

The mainstream 3G standards include WCDMA,CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA.Since WCDMA and TD-SCDMA share the same core network, the evolution of the core network architecture respects the development of the 3G core network.Based on WCDMA core network, this paper introduces the application of soft-switch in 3G core network. It discusses several versions of 3GPP WCDMA system focusing on the network architectures of each version, and describes the characteristics of the services carried by these versions respectively and the relationship between the versions during the process of the development. The evolution of soft-switch network architecture in the development of 3G and the researching emphasis in the future are also analysed in the paper.
