Abstract
Purpose:To investigate the effects of different concentrations of extracellular magnesium ions on calcium transients in cardiac cells of SD adult rats. Methods:Cardiac calcium transients were detected by the LSM510 META ccnfocal microscopic system, working synchronically with local field stimulation. Results:Low concentrations of extracellular magnesium ions(0 mmol/L,0.5 mmol/L;normal concentration is 1 mmol/L) increases the peak of calcium transients ( P 0.05 ),without affecting the duration of calcium release( P 0.05 );cardiac calcium transients were inhibited by higher concentrations of extracellular magnesium ions (2.5 mmol /L,5 mmol /L,10 mmol /L) (P 0.05 ),and the duration of calcium transients were prolonged by extracellular solution containing 5 mmol /L or 10 mmol /L magnesium ion(P0.05).Conclusion:Magnesium ions can inhibit cardiac calcium transients.
