Application of Flat-Plate Photobioreactor in Cultivation of Marine Alga

Abstract

The key performance parameters of flat-plate photobioreactor manufactured by us are determined,and culture conditions of Chaetoceros gracilis and Isochrysis galbana in photobioreactor are studied.The results indicate that light density and aeration velocity,as the key factors,affect growth of alga in photobioreactor.High illumination and large aeration velocity are propitious to increase of culture density.Comparison of open-pond cultivation system with the close flat-plate photobioreactor shows that the flat-plate photobioreactor can enhance cell growth density effectively.After 8 days,Chaetoceros gracilis cell still keep proliferating,and the ultimate cell density reach to 5.01×108 cells/mL at stable-period of growth.However,in the open-pond cultivation system the cell density only reach 1.81×107 cells/mL.Moreover,for the advantages of simply-operating,easily-amplifying and low-cost,the flat-plate photobioreactor is fit for industrialized algae production.
