Abstract

The flame propagation speed is an important feature of the flame and the combustible mixture. The phenomenon of flame propagation is a very complicated process. The flame speed is influenced by many factors, such as fluid dynamics, heat transfer and chemical reaction dynamics. In fact,it is impossible to set up an ideal plane in a practical system,so it is not easy to determine the speed of a laminar premixed flame in an experimental setup. One of the methods to measure the propagation speed is to utilize the stagnant flame. An experimental setup of a stagnant flame was used in this paper to measure the minimum speed at the location before the flame sheet by LDA.The flame structure at different stretch rates was discussed and the ideal flame propagation speed was determined by extrapolating the speeds before the flame sheet at different stretch rates to zero stretch rate.
