Abstract
With application of smeared crack model for concrete, the failure mode is studied with nonlinear model for a high concrete gravity dam in China.Through the method of seismic overload, the final failure modes of all the typical dam sections are obtained, and then the whole process from the crack appearance, development and failure of dam body is acquired from the time history simulation made on the crack evolution of the typical dam section. The study gives the failure laws of various types of the dam section under ultimate seismic load and summarizes the key locations and weak points for the earthquake-resistance of gravity dam;which provides some references for the engineering measures taken in the actual construction concerned.
