The Rise of China and the Security Dilemma in East Asia:Conceptual Definition,Theoretical Analysis and Corresponding Measures

In recent years,with the rise of China,U. S. rebalance in Asia-Pacific,and the complicated disputes in the East and South China Seas,an obvious security dilemma has been sprung in East Asia.However,because of lacking a comprehensive understanding of Asian security dilemma centralized in China,many analyses are unclear and even conflictive,for their understanding of security dilemma is over-simplified and over-static. In this article,the author will first give a more rigorous definition of the concept of security dilemma by summarizing classical papers on it,and then apply a new definition to the analysis of international relations in East Asia,pointing out that there are actually three levels of China-related security dilemma in this region,namely the low-level security dilemma between China and some Southeast Asian countries in the disputes of the South China Sea,the mid-level security dilemma between China and the United States on the overall strategic interactions in this region,and the high-level security dilemma between China and Japan concerning the disputes on the Diaoyu Islands. In the end,this article will put forward some suggestions on solving these problems respectively.
