Abstract
Objective To evaluate serum Dickkopf-1(Dkk-1) concentrations in patients with ulcerative colitis or colorectal cancer. Methods By use of ELISA, we investigated the serum concentrations of Dkk-1 in 56 patients with ulcerative colitis, 60 patients with colorectal cancer and 60 healthy controls. One-way ANOVA was used for statistics. Results Serum Dkk-1 concentration decreased in patients with ulcerative colitis, but there was only a significant difference between medium- and severe- ulcerative colitis and control group(P 0.05). The serum Dkk-1 concentration also decreased in patients with colorectal cancer, the difference was significant(P 0.05). Conclusion Dkk-1 has close relationship with ulcerative colitis and colorectal cancer progression, and could be used as a potential biomarker.
