Abstract

A cationic surface sizing agent of styrene-acrylic polymers is synthesized by soap-free emulsion technology by using acrylonitrile modified starch as dispersant, styrene as hard monomer, butyl acrylate as soft monomer, rosin amine as functional monomer, dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate as cationic monomer, acrylamide as crosslinking monomer, and potassium persulfate as initiator. The properties of the sized paper samples were tested. It was found that the optimum parameters were as follows:the ratio of St/BA 2.5,RA dosage 0.3%,DM 0.9%,AM 0.4%,ratio of starch/monomer 2,and K2S2O8 dosage 0.5%.
