Abstract

Cationic polyacrylamide(P(AM-DAC)) was synthesized by aqueous copolymerization of acrylamide(AM) and acryloyloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride(DAC) as the starting materials and Potassium persulfate as the initiator. The influences of such factors,as total concentration of monomers, use of initiators, copolymerization temperature on the main characteristics of CPAM in the process of the co-reaction were investigated, and the optimal reaction conditions were obtained as follows:copolymerization temperature 70℃,initiator amount 0.16%,total concentration of monomers 20%,monomer ratio m(AM):m(DAC) = 1:8,and reaction time 3h,Under optimum conditions, the intrinsic viscosity of the product is 15.792 2 dL/g.When the product is used in the treatment of sewage sludge with dosage 0.003%,the transmittance of the supernatant is 90.7%,and the dewatering rate of the sludge is 89.2%.Furthermore,the chemical structure and thermal behavior of CPAM were characterized by FT-IR and TG respectively.
