Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of unilateral percutaneous vertebroplasty(PVP) in the treatment of osteoporotic compression fractures(OVCF). Methods A total of 128 elderly patients with OVCF(156 vertebral bodies)were treated with unilateral PVP. The pain was assessed visual analogue scale(VAS)before operation, on postoperative day 1 and 3, and at 1 month after operation. In addition, clinical efficacy was evaluated at 1 month after operation. Results The operation was successfully completed and clinical symptoms were significantly improved without obvious complications in all patients. Among the 128 patients, the outcome was excellent in 113(88.3%), good in 9(7.0%),general in 4(3.2%)and poor in 2(1.5%). Conclusion Unilateral PVP is a simple, safe and effective treatment for OVCF in elderly patients.
