Forms of folk culture play important roles in Shen Congwen's fictional works In terms of cultural conflicts between urban and rural areas,he has a strong sensation of depressions and pains resulting from urban life because his heart is imbued with the spirit of rural folk Adopting a poetic folk stand,Shen Congwen reinvents the cultural image of the nation,endowing local colour with univeral solemnity,regional landscape with humanistic modernity.
