Abstract

Under simulated acid rain, the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), the chlorophyll content andchlorophyll a/b ratio decreased gradually. The activity of peroxidase (POD) and the soluble protein, malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide anion (O2ˉ·) contents increased. The activity of catalase (CAT) and theproline content increased firstly and decreased afterwards. However, under the same acid rain coercion, in theCasuarina equisetifolia seedlings pretreated with 0.1 and 1 mmol·L-1 Ca(NO3)2, the activities of SOD and CAT,the chlorophyll content and chlorophyll a/b ratio increased relatively; the activity of POD and the solubleprotein, MDA, Oˉ2· and proline contents decreased relatively. The Ca2+ pretreatment could reduce the harmfuleffect of acid rain on Casuarina equisetifolia seedlings.
