Abstract

Microscopic structure of the Zizphus spinesus leaves from the seedlings and the adults were examined and the results indicated that there is a closely relationship between leaf structure and the drought resistant character, and that significant differences in different types of leaves were detected. The results also showed that the leaf structure of different growth stages were different, correspondingly, their drought resistant character were not at the same level. The fully developed palisade tissue,non-spongy tissue and dense stomas in seedling leaves contribute to the high drought resistance of the seedlings;the high CTR value, the high ratio of palisade tissue to spongy tissue and the thick cuticle contribute to the drought resistant character of the adult Zizphus spinesu.
