Abstract

The PAM emulsion with average viscosity molecular weight of 9.4×106 was synthesized by the inverse emulsion polymerization technology, using the Span80/Span20 as the emulsifiers, toluene as the continuous medium,TBHP/sodium bisulphite redox as the initiator. The effect of the ratio of oil-phase to aqueous-phase,monomers concentration, the type and amount of emulsifier, the type and amount of initiator, reaction temperature on the polyacrylamide molecular weight, the conversion of monomer and polymerization rate were investigated. The best polymerization formula and conditions were:ratio of oil-phase to aqueous-phase 1.4,monomer concentration 30%,initiator amount 0.003%,emulsifier dosage 12%,reaction temperature 30 ℃.
