Abstract
Objective To determine the expression of matrix metalloproteinase 8 (MMP 8) in synovial fluid (SF) and plasma from individuals with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS),using specific monoclonal antibody reagents. Methods The MMP 8 activity in the SF and plasma of normals and patients with RA and AS was assessed by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Results ① The mean MMP 8 level determined in plasma from normal human and patients with RA,AS was 1~23 μg/L.② The MMP 8 level determined in synovial fluids from normal human and patients with AS was 10~20 μg/L.③ The MMP 8 level determined in synovial fluids from patients with RA was 90~2 800 μg/L.Conclusions ① The MMP 8 level in pasma from RA patients was not higher compared with that from normal human and platients with AS.② The MMP 8 level in the synovial fluids from RA patients was remarkably higher compared with from normal human and patients with AS.
