The Expression and Significance of VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 in Gastric Carcinoma

Abstract

Objective To study the relationship between the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor-c(VEGF-C)and its receptor VEGFR-3 with the clinical and pathological characteristics of gastric carcinoma.Methods 38 gastric carcinoma specimens were identified with immunohistochemistry by antibodies against VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 respectively,and the relationship between their expression and the clinical,pathological characteristics were analyzed.Results In 38 gastric cancer specimens,the VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 proteins were positively expressed in 63.2% and 71.1% respectively;both higher than the normal specimens(P0.05);and they were both correlated with lymphatic metastasis significantly(P0.05).The expression of VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 had a positive correlation(P0.01).Conclusion VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 express higher in gastric cancer tissues and are both correlated with lymphatic metastasis,which might result in a higher risk for lymph node metastasis.
