Abstract
AIM: To investigate whether leukemia inhibitory factor(LIF) exists in human follicular fluid(FF) and its effects on human oocytes. METHODS: Enzyme linked immunosobent assay was used to determine the levels of LIF in FF obtained during oocyte pick up and in the serum in 66 cases of in vitro fertilization embryo transfer, and the relationship between the levels of LIF in FF and the oocyte development was analyzed. RESULTS: The levels of LIF in FF and serum in 66 cases were 28.5±13.1 ng/L and 3.0±1.5 ng/L , respectively, the difference was very significant ( P 0.01). And there also was no relationship between them. The levels of LIF in FF from which matured oocyts were obtained was 33.7±11.1 ng/L,and the levels of LIF in FF from which unmatured oocyts were obtained was 18.0±10.5 ng/L,the difference between them was very significant ( P 0.01). CONCLUSION: There is very high level of LIF in human FF, and the LIF can improve oocyte development.
