Abstract

Objective To detect and analyse hematologic and serum biochemical values in clinically normal rhesus monkeys. Methods Blood samples were obtained and analysed from 104 healthy, domestically bred and reared clinically normal rhesus monkeys between the ages of 3-25 years old. According to sex and age (juvenile: 3-5, adult.6-10,elder: 11-25 years of age),the samples were tested with automatic blood cellular analyzer and automatic blood biochemical analyzer. Results Sex and age significantly affected blood values in rhesus monkeys. The reference range values of ALT, ALP, GGT, CHOL, APOA, HDL, LDL, P3+, BUN were lower (p0.01) in the female compared to male population, RDW,ALT,ALP,GGT, P3+,BUN,AST,CK, TF were higher (p0.01) in the juvenile compared to adult and elder, and Cr was lower (p0.05) in the adult compared to elder. Conclusion These reference values were affected by different age and sex of monkeys. They are necessary for scientific researches with the rhesus monkeys.
