Abstract

Recent studies showed that growth differentiation factor 9 (GDF-9) and bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP-15) were critical regulatory factors of follicular development and ovarian function. GDF-9 and BMP -15 can regulate the formation of dominant follicle and oocyte maturation via modulating cellular differentiation, proliferation and functions in autocrine and paracrine ways. The downstream of signaling pathways and regulatory mechanisms of GDF9 and BMP15 have become the hotspots of studies in recent years. This review focuses on genes, protein characteristics, signal transduction and regulatory mechanisms of GDF-9 and BMP-15.
