Effects of pueraria on body weight and neurons in CA_1 and CA_3 of hippocampal in ovariectomized rats

Objective To observe the effect of pueraria on body weight and CA1 and CA3 of hippocampal neurons in ovariectomized rats.Methods 72 female SD rats were randomly divided into high-,normal-,low-dose pueraria,premarin,control,and sham groups(n=12).Ovariectomized rats model were established in all groups except sham group,and fed with pueraria,premarin solution and normal saline for 30 days respectively.Cell morphology was analyzed by HE,at the same time the rats weight were recorded every 5 days.Results Compared with control group,pueraria(30~120 mg/kg) significantly inhibited the apoptosis of hippocampal neurons in a time-and dose-dependent manner,but had no obvious effect on body weight of rats.Conclusions Pueraria could inhibit the apoptosis of hippocampal neurons but have no obvious effect on body weight of rats.
