Abstract

Objective To explore the MR features and to evaluate the diagnostic value of tethered cord syndrome(TCS). Methods The MR appearances of 16 cases with TCS were analyzed retrospectively. Results Spinal cord was terminated below L1-L2 in 15 cases. MR findings were as follows: meningocele?myelomeningocele or lipomyelomeningocele(n=10), intradural lipoma(n=3), diastematomyelia(n=2), intradural epidoma(n=2), rachischisis and lumbosacral amerism(n=15). Conclusion MRI examination is of important value in the diagnosis of TCS.MRI can directly display the position of spinal cord conus and the cause of tethered spinal cord. MRI can also show the TCS-associated malformation and provide the reliable information for surgical operation.
