Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression of COX-2 and its relation with biological behavior and prognosis of pancreatic carcinoma(PC).Methods The expression of COX-2 protein was detected by immunohistochemical technique in 52 cases of human pancreatic carcinoma. The relationship between COX-2 and clinical pathological characteristics was statistically analyzed. Results In 52 cases of human pancreatic carcinoma, the positive rate of COX-2 was significantly lower in cases without metastasis and in the early stage(stageⅠ~Ⅱ) than that with metastasis and in the stage from Ⅲ to Ⅳ. In the 45 cases follow-up data showed that postoperative survival time was shorter in patients with positive expression of COX-2 than that with negative expression of COX-2. Conclusions In human pancreatic carcinoma, the expressionof COX-2 is closely correlated with tumor development, progression and prognosis, so may act as significant indicators for the biological feature of pancreatic carcinoma.
