Abstract

Objective To study the effect of propofol general anesthesia on the learning and memory function of the pregnant Sprague Dawley rat’s offspring. Methods 20 femal SD rats which had pregnancy for 7 days were randomly divided into propofol group (P) and control group (C).Propofol was infusded at a rate of 20 mg/(kg·h) for 2 hours after the induction dose of 20 mg/kg via tail vein in experimental group (group P).While in observation group (group C),propofol was replaced with eaqual volume physiological saline. The learning and memory function of those offspring rats were tested by Morris water maze test, and the hippocampus tissues were collected for HE staining at postnatal time 30 days,60 days and 90 days respectively. Results The seeking-platform latency, active time in the second quadrant and number of crossing-platform had no significant difference between group P and C at the observation time(P0.05).HE staining of hippocampus tissues showed no significant difference between two groups. Conclusion Propofol has no effect on learning and memory function of the pregnant Sprague Dawley rat’s offspring in this study.
