Expression of E-cadherin in Bladder Cancer

Objective To study the expression and clinical significance of E cadherin(E cd) in bladder transitional cell carcinoma.Methods Immunohistochmical method was used to detect E cd expression in 69 cases of bladder transitional cell carcinoma.Results The total normal expression rate of E cd was 50.7%.It was 72.2%、65.2% and 25.0% in Ⅰ、Ⅱ and Ⅲ of bladder trasitional cell carcinoma respectively and 78.8%、25.0% in Tis～T 1、T 2～T 4.E cd normal expression rate was significantly lower in poorly differentiated and invasive bladder cancer.The recurrence and death rate in the cases with normal expression was lower than that in the ones with abnormal expression.Conclusion Aberrant expression of E cd may play an important role in the malignant progression of bladder transitional cell carcinoma,and could be used as a marker of malignant potentiality it and prognosis of bladder transitional cell carcinoma.
