INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION ON THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES——Also on United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

The issue of protection on the rights of indigenous peoples is deep seated,so people have been exploring the preferential policies and special legal protection for indigenous peoples.Since 1980s,the international community has made great achievements in the protection on the rights of indigenous peoples.For example,the indigenous people not only enjoy the most basic human right to equality,liberty and the right to development,but also enjoy rights to education,language,culture,employment,land,natural resources,political rights,religious rights,beliefs,legal equality,the protection of traditional economy and way of life,cross-border rights,participation rights,development rights and a high degree of autonomy and so on.In 2007,Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples was issued,which shows the ultimate achievement on protection of the rights of indigenous peoples.The author,in this paper,thinks that the introduction of this international legal document reflects the determination of the vast majority of countries to protect the rights of indigenous peoples,but its implementation is still not optimistic.
