Abstract

The work mode and environment of the skywave over-the-horizon radar(OTHR) is relatively complicated.Affected by external nonstationary noise and clutters easily, the locating accuracy, detection probability and data rate of this radar are different from general radar. In order to detect target over the horizon, the electromagnetic wave must be propagated through the ionosphere.Since the radar returns can be contaminated by instantaneous change and multi-mode propagation of the ionosphere, the multi-path effect may appear. It makes the radar target data that measured by the OTHR uncertain and ambiguous. It is very difficult to pick up target correctly and to perform association and track processing with this data set.According to the statement of the HF radar, and refered to target extraction mode of the microwave radar,we have developed a manual/semi-manual extraction mode for OTHR operation on the basis of adaptive tracking technique. It makes this radar operating effectively under worse environmental conditions.
