Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of scaling and root planing(SRP) alone or combined with amoxicillin(AMX) and metronidazole(MTZ) in the treatment for generalized aggressive periodontitis(GAgP).Methods A double-blind and randomized clinical trial was conducted in 30 subjects receiving SRP alone or combined with MTZ and AMX for 14 days.Clinical examinations were performed at baseline and 3 months after-SRP.Results All subjects receiving both treatment showed the great improvements of the indices including the mean full-mouth probing depth, bleeding on probing, and clinical attachment loss. And the subjects receiving MTZ and AMX showed significant improvement. Conclusion Subjects with GAgP significantly benefit from the adjunctive use of MTZ and AMX.
