Abstract
Objective To study the expression of PTEN mRNA and PTEN protein in human gastric cancer and its clinical significance. Methods Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT PCR) and immunohistochemical methods were used to detect the expression of PTEN mRNA and protein of 46 cases of gastric cancer. Results The expression of PTEN mRNA and protein was significantly reduced in gastric cancer (43.5% and 47.8% respectively, P 0.01).The expression of PTEN was not related with age,sex of patients and size of tumor ( P 0.05),but with the differentiation level ( P 0.01),infiltration level ( P 0.01),lymph node metastasis ( P 0.05) and clinical stage ( P 0.05). Conclusion PTEN may play some roles in the development of gastric cancer, and was related with partial biological behaviors.Expression of PTEN may serve as an important molecular biological indicator in diagnosing and predicting the biological behavior of gastric cancer.
