Abstract
Objective To study the distribution of hepatitis B virus(HBV) genotypes of mothers and their newborns in Taiyuan and the characteristics of intrauterine transmission. Methods HBV genotype was determined by nested-polymerase chain reaction(nPCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis. Results Of 162 HBsAg positive mothers,63 were HBV DNA positive, 5(7.9%) were genotype B, 50(79.4%) were genotype C, and 8(12.7%) were uncertain. Of 164 newborns, 24 were HBV DNA positive, 1(4.2%) were genotype B, 21(87.5%) were genotype C, 1(4.2%) was infected with both B and C, and 1(4.27%) was uncertain.The genotype of HBV in newborns and their mothers was consistent. Conclusion Genotype C was the major genotype in intrauterine transmission in Taiyuan.Genotype of HBV was not changed in intrauterine transmission.
