Relationships among serum C-reactive protein,tumor necrosis factor-α,interleukin-6,and diabetic nephropathy

Objective To determine the relationships among serum C-reactive protein,tumor necrosis fac- tor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-6(IL-6),and diabetic nephropathy.Methods Sixty-four patients with type 2 diabetes were divided into 3 groups based on their urinary albumin excretion rate(UAER).Eighteen pa- tients with microalbumin were included in DN1 group,22 with clinical protein uria were included in DN2 group,24 with normal UAER were included in DM group,and 40 healthy individuals were collected as con- trol.The level of CRP as measured with ELISA assay.The levels of IL-6 and TNF-α were detected with electrochem iluminescence assay.Results The serum levels of CRP,TNF-α,and IL-6 in DN1 group and DN2 group were higher than those in control group,and also higher than those in DM group.It was signifi- cantly higher in DN2 group.The levels of serum C-reactictiv protein were positively correlated with those of INF-α and IL-6 in both DN1 group and DN2 group.Conclusion The levels of C-reactive protein,TNF-α, and IL-6 levels in the serum are correlated with the degree of diabetic nephropathy.
