Abstract
3-Pyridylcoumarins,which are known to be capable of inhibiting monoamine oxidase, have unique photochemical and photophysical properties. In this paper, six novel 3-pyridylcoumarins were prepared via the Knoevenagel condensation reaction of 2,4-dihydroxy-5-halobenzaldehyde with corresponding ethyl pyridylacetate. The structures of target compounds were confirmed by 1HNMR,IR,elementary analysis and MS spectroscopy. At the same time, the fluorescent properties of these compounds were studied. The results indicated that the synthesized compounds were potential fluorophores due to their good fluorescent quantum yields and large Stokes shift.
